Webb’s Resort, an iconic year-round resort in the heart of Chautauqua, recently came under new ownership. Partners and long-time friends Jay Patel and Vishal (of no relation) are excited to announce their acquisition of Webb’s, and are looking forward to updating this historic hotel, while still maintaining it’s classic charm.

Jay Patel was born and raised in Fredonia and has an extensive background in the hospitality industry. “My parents owned and operated several properties during my childhood including the Dunkirk Hotel, Vineyard Hotel and Restaurant, Best Western and Quality Inn Fredonia,” says Jay. “I’ve been raised with hospitality at the forefront of my life, and I’ve worked almost every job in the industry over the years.”

Both Vishal and Jay are 1st generation Indian Americans and
have great pride in what their families have accomplished in
the United States. Jay has a deep appreciation for Webb’s Resort
and its history in Chautauqua. Jay and Vishal describe
their vision as contemporary with a warm and cozy feel. They
plan to modernize the property while keeping its legacy. The
hotel remains operational, with most reconstruction on hold
until after the busy season

In 2019, Jay started a J + K Precision Cleaning, a commercial janitorial/cleaning service and epoxy floor coating company with business partner Kaleb Martinez. He furthered his business experience through this entrepreneurship and built connections in the Fredonia community. He is also part-owner, with Chris Einhart and Alex Loudenslager, of a vehicle customization company, The Lab NA, in Orchard Park.

Currently, Jay is working on opening a franchise of Firehouse Subs in Erie with business partner Genaro Collazo, which is set to open this month. The pair also plans to open 2 additional locations of Firehouse Subs this fall with one in Fredonia and another in Jamestown/Lakewood, totaling 3 locations within 18 months. “I’ve always been motivated with a business mindset,” says Jay. “I’ve gained valuable experiences throughout my career and I’m looking forward to advancing my skillset with Webb’s.”

Vishal brings his extensive background in retail and hospitality. His parents own a specialty Indian grocery store in Buffalo called Spresh. Both Vishal and Jay are 1st generation Indian Americans and have great pride in what their families have accomplished in the United States. “Both of our parents came to America from India in hopes of better opportunities. We’re very proud to contribute to our family’s accomplishments. It makes it all the more meaningful.”

Vishal and Jay had always admired Webb’s Resort as an icon in Chautauqua. When it went up for sale, they jumped at the chance to own the property. “We started making calls the day it went up for sale,” recalls Jay. “It’s such a great property and an amazing location with such deep history, we’re honored to take on this project.” With Vishal’s background in retail and marketing, and Jay’s experience in the hospitality industry, the duo is well equipped to take on the venture.

Jay has a deep appreciation for Webb’s and its history in Chautauqua. “My parents had a good relationship with the owners and they worked together in the lodging industry. We’re honored to breathe new life into this property, and help it continue to be in icon in the community for many years to come.”

Many celebrities have stayed at Webb’s over the years, including Frank Sinatra , Wille Nelson and several members of the Secret Service. Jay and Vishal plan to continue to recognize these celebrities with a portrait wall in the lobby, as well as plaques commemorating each celebrity. Much of the hotel will maintain it’s classic charm, but with a contemporary twist.

Jay and Vishal describe their vision as contemporary with a warm and cozy feel. They plan to modernize the property while keeping its legacy. The lobby will be transformed into an open floor plan, bringing in more natural light, immediately greeting guests with a fresh, cozy vibe. They plan to unify the appearance of the guest rooms and install and add new lighting, flooring paint, furniture and fixtures throughout. “The property has been very well maintained and it’s in great shape. We’re looking forward to modernizing it, while maintaining its heritage.”

The hotel remains operational, with most reconstruction on hold until after the busy season. “We’re deep in the planning phases, thoroughly ironing out the details for its new look, so we’re ready to dive into renovations later in the fall.” Jay and Vishal also acquired the Putt-Putt course and use of dock across the street from the hotel, and are currently refreshing both.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of the community and take on the Webb Resort. We’re looking forward to kicking off the spring/summer season and invite everyone to come check out the property.” Webb’s Resort is located at 125 West Lake Road, Lakeville NY, just across the street from Chautauqua Lake.
