There’s a new mural in Springville, at 35 East Main Street, covering the entire side of the sheltered staircase next to Lulu Belle’s boutique, and replacing the photo images that were there. This photo was taken on the afternoon on August 13th, when work was proceeding well. The people shown hard at work painting it last Thursday included Springville Center for the Art’s Public Art Coordinator Alisia Glasier, Visual Art Intern Desislava Furber and high school athlete Anatoly Wochensky, son of the Executive Director of the SCA.

Ms. Furber (known to her friends as Desi) designed the public work of art. When asked about the inspiration behind its various kaleidoscopic images, she explained: “They’re based on patterns and geometric shapes we found on Main Street, on buildings and on other places. For example, I was inspired by shapes on the clocks on the street. The brick pattern represents buildings in general” Earlier this summer, she created a mural enhancing the nearby Pop Warner trail, on the fence by Slippy’s Collision. It’s a fun, candy-colored castle, incorporating several design elements from different time periods.
