The Ellicottville Summer Music Festival is a premier three-day event hosted at Holiday Valley over Independence Day weekend. The event takes place July 3-5 featuring a variety of local and nationally known musicians creating a high-energy, festive atmosphere of outdoor live concerts concluding with the region’s largest fireworks displays.
The weekend features a stacked lineup of tribute acts and live performers ranging from stadium-rock cover bands to classic rock. “The Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce has brought in several nationally recognized acts over the years,” says Barb Pump, Executive Director of the Chamber. “It has grown and evolved over the years to become one of the most celebrated events of the summer, and in my opinion, the best way to celebrate our nations independence.”
Friday, July 3, Mr. Brightside kicks off the weekend with high-energy hits and crowd favorite anthems followed by headlining act Hair Nation bringing unapologetic rock classics from the 80’s. Saturday, July 4 is highlighted by retro favorites including the world-renowned The Fab Four Beatles Tribute act.
Saturday, July 4th features events throughout the village including the adorable pet parade at 11am. Registration is free (10:15 day of event at Katy’s Café) with all types of animal companions welcome, from dogs to baby calves, goats and even hermit crabs. After the parade, participants are invited to gather at the Village Gazebo for photos, treats and fun.
Evening music at Holiday Valley kicks off on Saturday with Nerds Gone Wild 80’s cover band followed by globally renowned Beatles Tribute act. Musical acts Cami Clune and Max Muscato play Sunday at Holiday Valley with the grand fireworks finale. “This lineup is incredible,” remarks Barb. “It’s sure to be a weekend of music to remember.”
Sunday, the energy continues through the village with boutique shopping, restaurant specials and live music throughout the village. “The Village becomes livelier, the resort sees more people at Sky High, riding the Sky Coaster, and out on the trails, enjoying nature,” explains Dash. “It’s great to see and it’s something that we look forward to being able to be a part of every summer. The Festival brings people in from throughout the region to enjoy the weekend in Ellicottville, which brings a new level of energy that your average summer weekend doesn’t typically have.”
Throughout the weekend, Rock Autism will have a presence in the village, with special events and individuals from the organization filming and raising awareness for the cause. “Our students will gain real-world experience working as event crew members, capturing content of daily activities and the concert, and helping run our raffles and merchandise table,” explains Max Muscato, founder of Rock Autism. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to empowering youth on the autism spectrum by providing professional training in music and film production. Max’s music and advocacy are deeply inspired by his brother’s personal journey with autism and addiction. Rock Autism is the only organization in the country that teaches the foundational principles of music and film production and employs people with disabilities in the entertainment industry through paid live entertainment internships.
Additionally, Max has a very special performance planned: Mitchell Law will join on stage to play “Song 8” on the upright bass. Mitchell is a partially deaf and non-verbal Rock Autism student and an incredibly accomplished musician who has had his compositions performed by the BPO and the Eastman School of Music. With his profound knowledge of music theory, Mitchell knows the key to the song, and he uses a special vibration pack that lets him feel the notes as he plays. “It’s going to be an incredible performance,” say Max. “I’m honored to have Mitchell join me on stage.”
The setting on Holiday Valley makes for an impressive backdrop, allowing guests to enjoy the music from the base of the mountains, taking in the crisp summer air in Western New York. “You’re outside, surrounded by forested hills, watching the sun set as you’re enjoying some great music,” describes Dash Hegeman, Director of Marketing at Holiday Valley. “You’re still only a short walk away from the amenities of the Main Lodge and the Tamarack Club, so you have a perfect mix of convenience and outdoor tranquility.”
The weekend is capped off with a massive fireworks spectacular set to a live soundtrack creating an incredible experience for all the senses. “The fireworks are always a highlight,” says Barb. “This year we’ve hired Skylighters who assure to make this year even better than years before. We’re excited to see this show!”
Beyond the concerts, the village of Ellicottville comes alive with boutique shopping, patio dining, craft beverages and brews and mountain adventure activities. “Our village is special any time of year, but it really comes alive during the Summer Music Festival,” says Barb. “Ellicottville has so much to offer, from ax throwing to eclectic dining options, craft brews, boutique shopping, golfing, mountain biking, mountain coaster, swimming, hiking and more! There’s truly something for everyone.”
