Located at the four corners in downtown Lakewood, Group Ther-Happy is a full-service restaurant/bar known for their casual dining and relaxed yet fun atmosphere. The menu offers pizza, soups, appetizers, salads and daily specials with live entertainment every Saturday (and Sunday in the summer).
Erica Simpson has owned and operated Group Ther-Happy since May 2024, taking over from Michelle Turner who started the restaurant in 2018. “My husband, Jeremy, has extensive experience in the industry,” explains Erica. “When Michelle mentioned retiring, he suggested I take the opportunity. Six months later, I was the owner!”
Michelle opened Group Ther-Happy on March 17, 2018 as a casual, fun restaurant for locals to gather. “It’s always been known in Lakewood as a friendly gathering place,” explains Erica. “We have good vibes, good food and drinks in a laid-back atmosphere.”
The menu offers fresh, casual fare including pizzas, sandwiches, salads and their famous giant pretzel. “We aim to have fresh food, nothing too heavy, but satisfying,” says Erica. On Wednesdays, the menu features a pasta special, and Thursday is wing and trivia night. Their full bar offers specialty cocktails along with draft beer, wine and seltzers.

During warmer months, Group Ther-Happy features a full-service patio. “We love hosting in our outdoor space,” explains Erica. “Not only are we conveniently located, but we have a great outdoor space, and it’s great for people watching.” Group Ther-Happy has cozy vibes during cooler months with an indoor fireplace and comfortable seating.
Erica enjoys being involved in the Lakewood community and providing a place for locals and visitors to gather. “I enjoyed coming here throughout the years as a patron; this was always my neighborhood place. It’s great to be able to keep it up and running. I love meeting with the locals and providing a welcoming laid-back atmosphere. You can make it what you want – come in alone for a drink or with a group of friends. All are welcome!”
Erica is thankful for a dedicated team. “I’m fortunate to work with such a great group of people,” says Erica. “From making incredible food to creating a memorable customer experience; they’re the heart and soul of this place.”
The Lakewood community businesses have been a great support for Erica. “We all support each other in many ways, whether through official meetings, professional advice or by shopping local. I make sure to visit the local shops and I enjoy seeing familiar faces in the restaurant.” Erica remarks how the Lakewood Community Development Corporation (LCDC) has assisted in increasing revenue and foot traffic to businesses in the community. “The LCDC has definitely taken a role in helping bring the community businesses together. The seasonal festivals (Fall Fest, Rock the Lake Summer Concert Series, Music Fest, and Christmas in the Village) have helped attract visitors to our area as well as create a stronger sense of community. There’s a good vibe in the village.”
