Unique Air B&B Experience
Spacious 5BR Chalet in the Woods with Pickleball Court

Spread the love

By Kate Bartlett

Marya Grande and her husband Charlie knew they wanted something different for their Air B&B in Ellicottville. After finding their ideal property, just over 2 miles outside of the village situated on 10 acres of land, they decided to renovate the pole barn into a climate controlled ‘game room’ with a full pickleball court. Complete with radiant floor heating, cornhole court and seating, their unique property is ideal for large groups and family gatherings year-round.

After hosting guests for over 15 years in Crystal Beach, Canada, Marya and Charlie decided to sell and find a rental property in the States. “We love hosting and have many fond memories of Crystal Beach, but we wanted something closer to home, on American soil.” With family connections to the area, their families grew up skiing on the slopes of Ellicottville. “We have many fond family memories in Ellicottville over the years. It’s such a quaint town with a warm community and with a love for the great outdoors, it seemed only natural that we find a rental property here.”BnB Exterior

Marya and Charlie found their ideal property just 2.5 miles outside the village. Situated on 10 acres of land, the property offered a more secluded retreat, yet still close to the amenities of the village. “We love that there’s hiking right on the property. You’re immersed in the beauty of the great outdoors; a getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.”

At first, they were unsure what to do with the pole barn on the property. They debated over a hot tub or storage unit, but neither seemed quite right. “A good friend of ours is very involved in pickleball and casually mentioned we should put one in the barn. Almost instantly, we knew this was exactly what we wanted for our rental unit; something different and unique that would attract visitors year-round. Locals and visitors to the area typically have an appreciation for an active lifestyle, so it fit the bill. Plus, pickleball is fun!”

The full size pickleball court made use of the already installed radiant floor heating which provides a climate-controlled environment for year-round pickleball. The game room also includes corn hole, ping pong and pop o shot and other games. Complete with seating and plenty of room to spread out and have fun, it’s the ultimate gathering room.

The Chalet in the Woods is comprised of 5 bedrooms, spread out on 3 different levels, perfect for groups or large families to spread out. With 1 king, 2 queen, 2 full and 3 twin beds, there’s plenty of options for sleeping arrangements, and privacy with the bedrooms spread out throughout the chalet. In addition to the game room, the chalet boasts a relaxing zero gravity massage chair, dart board, and bubble hockey. The space is finished with light colors and bright, natural light pouring in the large windows. Unique ski décor completes the décor, with local pieces giving the finishing touch. “We didn’t want to do anything to distract from the outside and the natural beauty here. We chose light colors and accents to focus the beauty on the outdoors.”

The Grandes enjoy hosting through Hostable EVL, and made sure to give The Chalet personal touches including books, board games and local recommendations that make the stay complete. “We really hope to enhance people’s stay; create an experience rather than just a place to sleep. We hope groups of friends and families make memories here, enjoying the property and all that Ellicottville has to offer.”

Currently, the pickleball court is reserved for overnight guests only, but Marya and Charlie are considering hosting a pickleball league in the near future. Watch for updates on Facebook.
