The Rotary Club of Jamestown was founded in 1919, and it’s an altruistic nonprofit service organization that provides both local as well as international project support. Many years ago, (1986-2008), the Rotary Club of Jamestown had annual fundraising auctions. This spring, they will return to having a similar auction called The Jamestown Rotary Treasure Trove Auction. It will take place at Moon Brook Country Club on Saturday, May 18, 2024, starting at 5pm. Upon arrival, there will be snacks and a cash bar. People can bid on the silent auction items and browse several of the live auction items that were most viewed online. Delicious food stations will be available at 6:15pm. There will be a 50/50 drawing and the Heads and Tails Game just before the live auction bidding at 7:30pm, under the direction of Ben and Chuck Ludwig. You can view all the live auction items ahead of time online at JNYRotary.afrogs.org. To encourage wider participation in this year’s auction, it will be set up differently than those in the past to accommodate anyone who may not be able to attend the event. This auction will include online bidding for the same items as the live auction. You can browse the items online starting in April. The online bidding will be May 1st through May 18th. The highest online bid for an item will be the opening bid for the live in-person auction on the 18th. When bidding online you can also do an absentee bid in which you can indicate the highest amount you are willing to bid.
Here is a list of some of the amazing items to bid on: 7 nights in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico / 3 bedroom Villa including a golf package • Yankees Package/ 3 nights in NYC with 4 Yankee Tickets • 4 Buffalo Sabers tickets • Hot Air Balloon Ride for 2 • Chautauqua Harbor Hotel 2 Night Package • a Ricoh Color Copying System • local restaurant and attraction gift certificates • sterling silver diamond tennis bracelet • 4 tickets to St. Bonaventure Basketball • 40 inch Samsung Full HD TV • and many, many more.
To attend the live auction at Moon Brook on the 18th, a limited number of presale tickets are available for $50 when you register and purchase them ahead, or you can pay $75 at the door, if space is available. Several local businesses and people are table sponsors for their invited guests. To browse the descriptions of all the auction items available to bid on as well as all the important information about registering and buying tickets, go to the auction website at JNYRotary.afrogs.org.
Whether you decide to attend the event in person or bid on items online, it is a great way to help support The Rotary Club of Jamestown. By supporting the Rotary, you are helping to support our community in many ways. For one example, in 2020, in connection to the Rotary’s 100th anniversary, the Rotary gave a gift to the City of Jamestown. They presented Jamestown with the new Welcome to Jamestown sign that is at the North Main Street entrance to Jamestown near exit 12 off Interstate 86.
More recently the Rotary Club of Jamestown started and is in their second year of their Bibs and Books Project, which is a program initiated by the Rotary Club’s Literacy Committee. In coordination with UPMC, any infant that is born in UPMC is given a bib and a book to promote the importance of early literacy and encourages parents to read to their infants. These are just two of the recent accomplishments of the Rotary Club of Jamestown.
