February Exhibits: Artwork, Yoga, Music, Lessons, Writing & More

   There are many exciting exhibits and events to enjoy this winter and Spring, thanks to the Springville Center for the Arts. The exhibit “Community Threads: Traditional & Contemporary Fiber Arts”, which will continue until Saturday, March 16, 2024, showcases many types of fiber arts, the work of local and regional artists. At the weaving class connected with it, which will be given on Saturday, February 3rd, from 9am-1pm, participants will learn the basics of weaving and about modern fiber art.

   Yoga in the Gallery will happen Sunday, February 4th, from 11am-noon. Instructor Danielle Cambio of Blue Sky Wellness will conduct a series of yoga classes in the Olmsted Gallery. Registration is required. Regular Yoga classes will be on February 4th, March 3rd, April 7th and April 27th. Yoga with Sound Bath will be on March 17th.

The fi rst Thursday Folk Night will take place on February 1st from 6:30-8pm. The free evening will focus on folk and traditional music and it will be hosted by many players. However, the names of the hosts have not yet been announced. The second, also free, Thursday Folk Night, will take place on February 8th. “Jazz Night with Cat Jones”, will feature jazz standards from the 40’s to the present, selections from the great American Songbook and also some Latin music. There will be different musicians each time.

   The oil paintings now on display in the Art’s Cafe gallery are the work of Dave Jeffers, who began painting as a teenager. The art, which will be on display until Saturday, February 17th, features bright colors, and curling lines. 

    Speaking of teens, on Friday, February 16th and Friday, April 19th, from 6-8pm, kids of high-school age can go to a free event at Art’s Cafe, to make friends and make art. There will be music, snacks, activities and prizes to keep them entertained.

  At “Blank Canvases”: Gathering Community Input”, a free reception on February 10th, from 10am-3pm, community members are invited to learn about, and participate in, the process of designing public art. It will be held at the Lab (the nickname for the Springville Center for the art’s Laboratory of Social Aesthetics. It is an art studio and gallery in the former Carpet World at 67 East Main Street in Springville, and it is the home base for SCA staff artists Max Collins and Alisia Glaser.

   The free Silent Writing Group will meet on Wednesday, February 7th, from 6-8pm. Writers can choose to either write silently for two hours or participate in a session about self-publishing led by Isaiah Rashad.

     Artist Night with Zack Boehler, is on Wednesday, February 7th, from 6:30-8pm. Zack Boehler joined the Buffalo Art Museum in 2017 as the Public Art Project Coordinator. The free event at Art’s Cafe will feature talks hosted by staff artist Max Collins. It will spotlight an assortment of artists from all disciplines. Attending the evening is a great way to network, learn about events, opportunities and art-making in Western New York.
