Saturday, March 15, marks the second annual Uppenover fundraising event with Holiday Valley. This fun and active event encourages athletes of all ages and abilities to get ‘up and over’ the slopes while raising money for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Jane Eshbaugh, Marketing Advisor with Holiday Valley, was inspired to start the event last year to gather the community together in a fun, active event while raising awareness and funds for Roswell Park. The event also raises awareness to the Holiday Valley team that rides in the Empire State Ride, a fundraising ride across New York State that makes an incredible impact to Roswell. “We figured this was a fun and unique event to get people together and be active while supporting this great cause,” says Jane.

Uppenover is an uphill/downhill event that quite literally, goes up and over the slopes. The event starts at Holiday Valley, goes up, over, and down HoliMont, back up HoliMont, over and back down to Holiday Valley. Participants can use any equipment that attaches to feet, like touring skis, cross country skis, or show shoes, and are encouraged to participate at their own pace. “It can be a race, or just for fun. We just encourage everyone to embrace the elements, be safe, and have a good time,” says Jane.
Prizes will be awarded to the fastest male and female, as well as the first, second and third place participants for HoliMont and Holiday Valley. “It’s a friendly competition between us,” says Jane. Holiday Valley won last year, and currently displays the traveling trophy proudly. Prizes for fastest male and female include a beautifully hand-turned bowl created by local artist Mark Pritchard.
Everyone is invited to the after party at the Champagne Sundeck outside Yodeler Lodge with music, raffles, food and beer provided by 42 North. “Whether you participate, or just want to come out and have fun supporting a good cause, all are welcome at the after party,” says Jane. The party will include a basket raffle including one-of-a-kind items.
As a cancer survivor, Jane has experienced first-hand the incredible care and cutting-edge research at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and is determined to help make an impact to this remarkable organization. Founded in 1898 as the nation’s first cancer center, Roswell Park set the standard for today’s multidisciplinary approach to the highest quality cancer care. Located in downtown Buffalo, New York, Roswell Park remains the only comprehensive cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Upstate New York, and one of only four NCI-designated com-prehensive cancer centers in all of New York. In the past year, Roswell Park teams cared for more than 46,000 patients. From cancer detection and treatment to cutting edge research, Roswell is a true leader in comprehensive cancer care in the nation.
Jane invites athletes of all abilities to participate in this unique event on Saturday, March 15, or just come celebrate at the afterparty. “It’s sure to be a good time, in good company, for a great cause.”
