The “cosmic cowboys” of the WNY music scene are coming to Jamestown.
There is no rock band in Western New York quite like Well Worn Boot. The band has been described as the cosmic cowboys of prog rock. Their live shows are legendary and beyond fun.
Fresh off their new EP release “Live in Jamestown,” Well Worn Boot will be headlining Third Thursday Jamestown on Thursday, June 20th at Winter Garden Plaza. Also on the bill are The Hallow Society and Mikee Strongmen.
We recently caught up to The Plainsman, lead vocalist and flutist for Well Worn Boot, and he gave us a little insight into the band and why they love Jamestown.
Villager (V): Describe a Well Worn Boot concert?
Well Worn Boot (WWB): “A Well Worn Boot concert is like if you found yourself in a dusty bar in 1979, and then the entire cast of Easy Rider came out dressed as Muppets and then they played the most hardcore rock show of all time.”
(V): What are the origins of the band?
(WWB): “The band has always existed. Or at least as long as America has existed the band has existed. The band is more an idea than an actual band. More of a story than an actual act. We are actually based on true events. But then again, so was the film Forrest Gump and that was just convoluted, sentimental garbage.”
(V): Tell us about the new “Live In Jamestown” EP. How did it come about?
(WWB): “Live from Jamestown is like the live album we’ve always wanted to make. We play so much in the Dirty J, that we had to show the love. Show the people where we came from. Where our roots are, ya know?”
(V): Tell us about the band’s history with Jamestown – what places/events have you played?
(WWB): “We love Jamestown more than we love our own families. It is sad almost, but the history is just too big to ignore. We played Mojos back in the day with our dude Baxter and the Smackdab boys. We did Wine Cellar and Beer Snob and Whirly Bird. Not to mention the nearby towns. I don’t want to go overboard, but it’s safe to say that we are regional powerhouses. Think like Lucille Ball but even more famous and hilarious.”
(V): Can you describe a Jamestown audience that shows up to your gigs?
(WWB): “Compared to Buffalo, Jamestown keeps it more real. You guys always come correct with an amped up crowd and possibly more cigs than anywhere.”
(V): What’s on the horizon for Well Worn Boot? More touring? More music?
(WWB): “What isn’t on the horizon for us? We just keep playing tunes, and making albums, and meeting people, and getting free drinks from strangers, and from here, I think it is logical to say that we become the biggest band in the world and then start making our worst album.”
