Disney on Ice is returning to Key Bank Arena in Buffalo January 26-29 in one of their most diverse and entertaining shows Into the Magic. The performance includes 6 amazing storylines, blending crowd favorites (Frozen), with the classics (Cinderella) and new culturally rich stories (Coco and Moana). Follow Belle’s adventures in Beauty and the Beast, Miguel’s love for music in Coco, and Rapunzel’s clever antics in her island kingdom while making family memories to last a lifetime.
The Villager had the pleasure of speaking with Gabe Parker, National Ice Dance Competition winner in 2020 and touring performer with Disney on Ice. Gabe started his iceskating career at the young age of 6. “My mother was a figure skater and she really inspired and encouraged me.” He competed throughout high school and traveled to national competitions starting at age 14. “My mom has always supported me and we became very close traveling during these competitions.” Many of Gabe’s friends and coaches were involved with Disney on Ice, so it became Gabe’s ultimate goal as he heard how highly they spoke of their experiences. “It’s always been my dream to perform with Disney.”
Gabe is in the ensemble for Into the Magic, and plays several different roles. “This particular show is very unique with its 6 distinct stories. Each one is very different and diverse; it makes for a great show.” Gabe’s favorite part of the show is the Moana segment. “The crowd always loves Frozen. I can hear everyone cheering when Olaf comes out. But my personal favorite is when the villagers dance with Moana praising her for leading the village. It’s such a unique piece; the choreography is great and it’s really entertaining.”
The experience touring with Disney on Ice has been everything Gabe imagined. “It’s such a magical experience being able to bring such joy to children of all ages. The connection the skaters make with the kids is enchanting. It makes be so happy to be a part of the Disney magic.”
Into the Magic will be about halfway through their nationwide tour when they visit Key Bank Arena in January. The cast includes approximately 50 skaters and 30 crew members. While on the road, they rehearse at least once per week, in addition to their scheduled performances. They’ll be headed to St. Louis after Buffalo.
Disney on Ice is has been entertaining since 1981 and is the largest employer of professional figure skaters in the world, representing over 40 countries. Throughout the past 41 years, Disney on Ice has performed in 68 countries in more than 545 cities in 40 languages for over 320 million guests. It takes a love of performing, persistence and determination to be a Disney skater. In just one tour, a performer will travel an average of 13,860 miles after preparing on average for more than 550 hours. A few more fun facts, the average skater flies across the ice at over 20 mph and can spin on average 300 rotations per minute.
Gabe is honored to be a part of the production, and hopes to perform with Disney for years to come. “I love hearing the excitement, seeing the kids smile and the joy that comes to their faces. It’s such a magical experience. The skating and choreography for this show is amazing. Come experience the magic of Disney on Ice and make memories with your children to last a lifetime.”
