The Lighthouse is a delightful small town grocery store. When in Chautauqua it is a must-see place to visit. Owned and operated by Norm Smith since 2008, he himself has worked there since he was 15 years old. Norm’s staff is his other family, greeting everyone who enters with a friendly smile. He is devoted to those that reside in the area year-round and to continuing to work as a local business. By now he knows the names of almost all customers that visit weekly if not daily and enjoys meeting new faces with the seasonal crowd that visits Chautauqua.
From high quality meat to fresh baked goods to lunch time favorites, they have created an incredible atmosphere. Locals who are stepping out for lunch during the work day appreciate how quickly they can make a delicious handmade sandwich to order and visitors who have the time to explore enjoy seeing local goodies and produce.
I personally most enjoy their rotisserie chickens which makes for the best chicken noodle soups during these cold months in Western New York and the Philly Cheesesteak offered on Fridays. You can even reserve them ahead because they are so scrumptious that they sell out early!
