Steve Beattie is the owner and founder of Custom Turf, with headquarters in Salamanca, NY, proudly serving Western New York and Northeast PA. Steve and his committed team offer installation of premium synthetic turf for various projects, including hardscapes, lawn, pet, athletic, playground, golf, bocce ball and more.

Steve started the company in 1996 with the vision of building and installing indoor putting greens. He soon expanded to include hardscape, paver and wall installation and took on large projects like Holiday Valley (pictured, above). The business expanded further to include projects in Buffalo, Chautauqua and Chautauqua Counties and Northeastern PA.

Custom Turf offers complete installation or a do-it-yourself option, shipping orders all over the USA. With installation, Steve’s team of experienced and trained technicians install and maintain the turf project. “Turf is becoming very popular as a low-no maintenance grass alternative. Many homeowners find turf an attractive option for pets and athletics, as it produces far less mud that regular dirt/grass. Customers never need to worry about mowing, watering, fertilizing or weeding their lawn again. Pesticide sprays aren’t needed, and some find it far more eco -friendly and sustainable.”

As a Great Valley resident, Steve is proud to serve his community in this way. His brother Jud also works in the lawn care industry as the owner of Dr. Green Lawn, serving Allegheny, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua and McKean County for lawn fertilization and weed control.

Recently, Steve and his team have been installing an increasing amount of pet turf. “This grass alternative has become very popular in the last few years, as customers aim to replace muddy backyards and keep their house cleaner. We’ve installed numerous pet turfs in residential properties as well as doggie day cares, veterinary clinics and Kennels.”

Similarly, artificial turf has become increasingly popular at playgrounds, especially daycare and education centers. “Not only does it reduce mess, but it’s more allergy friendly and sustainable. Many daycares, such as EduKids and Doodlebugs, have replaced their play space grass with our high-quality synthetic turf.”

Sports turf is popular on athletic fields and training centers as it provides a durable alternative to grass, with less mess and little-no maintenance.

Steve enjoys the variety and physical nature of his job. “Every day is different; no two projects are alike. I enjoy the manual labor and watching the projects come to fruition. It’s very satisfying. The installation team at Custom Turf is top notch, and I enjoy working with them. We have all been together quite a while and are very experienced, like a well-oiled machine.”

Every year, Custom Turf designs the putting greens for the Ellicottville Par Crawl, which will be held this Saturday, September 9th from 12-5pm. 100% of proceeds benefit PGA Hope WNY, which impacts lives through the game of golf with programs serving military veterans, youth and diverse individuals. “Not only do I enjoy designing and creating the putting greens, but the Par Crawl is such a great event. It’s fun for all ages, and raises money for such a great cause. We’re thrilled to be collaborating with WNY PGA for the third year to put on this successful event.”

Custom Turf is the leader in WNY for high quality synthetic turf. As the four seasons bring muddy, wet yard conditions, many Western New Yorkers are finding themselves looking for cleaner alternatives. All their products are Made in the USA and come with an unmatched warranty.
