Cannabis is officially and finally legalized in New York State and there have been a multitude of dispensaries popping up with many options to choose from. How do you pick one from another? Well, “it’s time to bless your lungs” by stopping into Good Leaf Dispensary.
There are currently two locations. One in Salamanca, NY located at 730 Broad Street and the other in Gowanda, NY at 14411 NY-438. This is a one hundred percent Native owned recreational cannabis company and they take great pride in their products.
The Villager had a chance to speak with owner Holly John about Good Leaf and what it has to offer and what sets it apart from the many other dispensaries in the area.
The Villager (V): What brought you to open up Good Leaf?
Holly (H): “Our family has been pursuing a potential cannabis retail and grow establishment since 2013 when a federal “Cole” memorandum essentially honored Native American land as equal as a state and would not be pursued for their marijuana pursuits. Recently when New York State passed their legislation in April of 2022, it gave our customers the confidence to come and purchase from us so we opened as quickly as we could and currently have a Gowanda and Salamanca location. Customers are able to visit Leafly and place their orders ahead of time for quick in-store pickup and to browse and view our current inventory or visit our website at GoodLeaf716.com to view our current promotions as well as see our latest products. We saw an opportunity to enter the cannabis scene as a family business. It’s passing the entrepreneurial torch to our next generation. We initially formulated Good Leaf to be an entity that was all things agriculture – growling, producing & preserving food. Food sovereignty has become an important topic in light of global warming. Cannabis was just one consideration under that umbrella. We decided it would be our first venture into the world of agriculture. We continue to reinvest into operations in order to become fully integrated to expand what and how we grow. Farming and agriculture are in our DNA as Seneca people, we have an obligation to get back to it. It just so happens to be Cannabis currently.”
V: What types of products do you offer?
H: “We offer traditional flower in 1/8 oz as well as pre rolls already made. We also have dabs waxes and cartridges available for smoking and vaping. We have an edible line including chocolate bars, gummies, cookies, lemonade drinks and other forms. Our most exciting products are slushies as we are not aware of any competitors offering this form of infused cannabis drinks.”
V: How does Good Leaf set itself apart from the other dispensaries in the area?
H: “We carry quality products which are well presented in a clean, inviting atmosphere. We encourage our bud tenders to assist the customer to make their shopping experience at Good Leaf a memorable one. We solicit feedback from our customers in order to continue providing great products and friendly, knowledgeable service. We pride ourselves on carrying high quality flower and have partnered with some Growers to exclusively carry theirs. We are constantly trying to innovate our product line by carrying new and hot products like slushies and are exploring selling cookie dough not just fresh cookies so the customer can enjoy it when and where they want to.”
V: Will you be hosting any specials or events?
H: “Of course we will be celebrating 420 with many of our other competitors but the most exciting thing is we will be opening an indoor cannabis lounge by then. Visit our website GoodLeaf716.com for more details. Don’t forget, we have been busy planning in store marketing promotions at both locations. Good Leaf dispensaries are located at 14411 Rt 438, Gowanda, NY 14779 716 -532-HIGH (4444) as well as 730 Broad St, Salamanca, NY 14779 716 945-HIGH (4444). With the warmer weather in the near future, we hope to host some outdoor events to include, food trucks, car shows, perhaps an art/vendor market to coincide with the Seneca Nation Pow Wow in mid-July at the White Pine Lodge.”
V: Anything else you would like to add?
H: “We will be opening a lounge at the White Pine Lodge, at 779 Broad St, Salamanca, NY 716-945-7600 soon. The great room will be transfixed into a smoker’s lounge. Visitors will be able to purchase and enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere, Good Leaf product sold in the lounge daily. We offer space to host special events/private events such as: birthday celebrations, bachelor / bachelorette parties, PPV sports events, paint nights, reunions etc. You name it, we’ll host it. We’ll even have a 6 chair “gamers corner” where guests can show their expertise on the latest gaming platform. We have a lot planned for the future and we welcome our communities to join us.”
