A new business is being planned in the heart of Ellicottville, as the Ellicottville Cannabis Company targets a dispensary at 11 Martha Street. Owners Stew and Deb Ritchie, both hailing from Cattaraugus, are preparing to open their doors on April 20, 2024, ushering in a farm-to-consumer cannabis experience like no other. As the countdown begins, let’s explore the roots of this endeavor and what the community can expect from this exciting addition to the Village.
From Farm to Consumer: A Rich Agricultural Legacy
Stew and Deb Ritchie bring over 27 years of farming expertise to Ellicottville. Known for their Native Offerings farm cooperative, which supplies fresh produce to co-op members and the Elmwood Village Farmer’s Market, the couple has added a new leaf to their agricultural journey. Native Offerings Farm is a certified organic CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) project in Little Valley (East Otto), New York. Having ventured into hemp cultivation three years ago, their knowledge and commitment to sustainable farming practices lay the foundation for the Ellicottville Cannabis Company. A large percentage of the cannabis products used in their products will be grown right here in Cattaraugus County.
B-Side Cannabis: Gummies and Buds with a Personal Touch
Under the brand “B-Side Cannabis,” the dispensary will offer a carefully curated selection of gummies and buds. Stew and Deb’s commitment to responsible cannabis consumption is evident in the gummies, available in 2-milligram strength. Designed for new users to have a positive experience, the color-coded packaging adds a personal touch. Red labeling signifies a mellow and chill vibe, Green boosts energy for Village adventures or the slopes, while Yellow combines the best of Red and Green for celebratory occasions.
Optimizing Terpene Expression
Attention to detail is a hallmark of the Ellicottville Cannabis Company. The locally grown buds are meticulously formulated to optimize their terpene expression, resulting in many distinctive flavors, aromas, and experiences. This focus on the sensory experience ensures each product is a unique and enjoyable journey for consumers, reflecting the Ritchies’ dedication to quality.
Safety and Transparency
The owners prioritize safety and transparency, as seen in their commitment to providing pesticide, herbicide, and fungicide-free products. Every package will feature a QR code, allowing consumers to trace the origins of their chosen product. This dedication to transparency ensures that customers can make informed choices about the products they purchase.
Community Impact: Local Employment and Future Plans
The Ellicottville Cannabis Company isn’t just about products; it’s about community. The dispensary plans to employ over five staff members, contributing to local job opportunities. Currently holding a NY State Conditional Cultivator license and applying for an Adult-use Microbusiness License, the Ritchies are working closely with the Village Planning and Zoning Boards to secure the necessary approvals. Looking ahead, the couple envisions online and phone orders with discrete local home delivery, a service targeted for 2025, contingent on evolving state regulations.
As the Village prepares for the grand opening of the Ellicottville Cannabis Company on April 20, 2024, anticipation and curiosity waft in the air. Stew and Deb Ritchie’s journey from traditional farming to cannabis cultivation, processing, and sales is one to closely follow in this up-and-coming industry.
