West Rose opened its doors in December 2019, and in just 3 short years, it’s established a well-deserved reputation as a hip destination for dinner and drinks and a fun Sunday brunch stop. Caryn Dujanovich, who co-owns The Grange Community Kitchen in Hamburg and The Grange Outpost in Orchard Park with Brad Rowell, shares, “We have always loved Ellicottville – the quaint town, the community, and local businesses.” Once they secured the West Rose location with additional co-owner Anthony Petrilli at 23 Washington Street, they tailored the concept based on both their vision and the physical space.
The details of the space’s design will not be lost on guests. The restaurant’s main floor is spacious and airy, with plenty of room in between the tables and the bar. The walls are exposed white brick, the floor and chairs are matching blond hardwood, and behind the bar, the taps and bottles are nestled in arched alcoves. Patrons will notice the terrazzo-patterned bar and tabletops. Continuing straight back past the bar area, and into part of the upstairs, is additional seating.
West Rose is open for dinner Thursday through Saturday, 4:30-9pm, with a menu that includes small plates, entrees, and wood-fired pizza. Guests can also order beer or wine by the glass or bottle; wine aficionados will appreciate the variety of bottles available from various regions of the world, including but not limited to Spain, Argentina, Germany, and France. West Rose offers classic cocktails, such as Penicillin, as well as their own original libations. Cocktails can also be ordered at brunch, which West Rose serves from 10:30-2:30am every Sunday. Owners Brad and Caryn count the pancakes and wood-fired pizzas as menu favorites.
Although West Rose originally opened in 2019, the owners added an additional concept called West Rose Upstairs in November 2021. West Rose Upstairs began as a casual space where guests could watch the Bills or Sabres on the big screen, order appetizers or sandwiches, and play shuffleboard. In August of this year, the concept was further developed with the help of sous chef, Mark Tiedt. Tiedt constructed a menu of various noodle dishes including spicy ramen and drunken noodles. Customers can now also enjoy the full cocktail selection at West Rose Upstairs, and patrons may also help themselves to craft beers and wine from the refrigerator. West Rose Upstairs is open to guests Fridays 4:30-11pm, Saturdays 12-11pm, and Sundays 12-7pm.
Dujanovich also reveals, “We are excited to introduce our sister venture, Wayland Brewing, located in Orchard Park, NY. We will have our beer available in West Rose starting early 2023!”
