Trail
The EVGV Trail is a key part of the proposed 80-mile Southern Tier Trail, which will connect over 20 towns, cities, and villages in Western New York. Stretching approximately 52 miles through Cattaraugus County, the trail will link scenic destinations, encourage outdoor recreation, and create economic opportunities. It will also connect to major trail systems, including the Shoreline Trail in Buffalo, the 90-mile Genesee Valley Greenway, and the Empire State Trail, forming an extensive regional network.
Local officials and trail advocates are eager to share updates and discuss the benefits the project will bring, including improved tourism, economic development, and enhanced safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
Featured Speakers
Several experts will be speaking at the forum, each bringing valuable insight into the project’s significance and expected benefits:
Kate O’Stricker – A Senior Development Specialist with the Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning, and Tourism, O’Stricker has been instrumental in securing federal funding for the trail’s design. She will highlight the project’s economic and tourism impact.
Justin Booth – As the director of GoBIKE, an organization focused on bicycle and pedestrian accessibility, Booth has successfully implemented safe walking and biking spaces across neighboring communities. He will discuss the trail’s role in promoting safety and connectivity.
Carl Schoenthal – The President of Friends of the Genesee Valley Greenway, Schoenthal has fostered relationships between trail organizations and local governments to boost economic activity while preserving cultural heritage. He will provide insights on the “Trail Towns” model and its potential benefits for Ellicottville and Great Valley.
Paula Jones – Representing Parks & Trails New York, Jones will discuss the Empire State Trail Town Program, which supports communities along major trail routes. She will share success stories from similar projects across the state.
With community engagement playing a crucial role in the trail’s development, residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and participate in shaping this transformative project.
The public forum will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 6-8pm at the Ellicottville Town Center, 28 Parkside Drive, Ellicottville.
