Hideaway Bay is a hidden gem along the shores of Lake Erie, and is soon to be home to a luxury eco-resort. Hideaway Bay consists of 10 spacious, 2-bedroom accommodations, each with roof-top patios offering sweeping lake views, is set to open in May 2024.
Founders and creators, husband and wife team, Kevin Cullen and Christian Edie found the property when paddle boarding on the Lake. Inspired by this beautiful landscape, they saw the opportunity for a luxury resort catering to relaxation on the beach. “The property is absolutely pristine and encapsulates the beauty of the shores of Lake Erie. Our resort caters to the natural beauty of this space as we strive to capture and enhance the views.”
Kevin and Christian both grew up near Buffalo, and settled in Silver Creek after living out West for 5 years. “We saw the opportunity here in Silver Creek for sustainable eco-conscious development,” says Kevin. “This area is such a hidden gem with the potential to draw tourism and deepen appreciation for the natural beauty here. We’re thrilled to be making our vision a reality.”
Gene and Matt Tundo of Tundo Construction have been a part of the team since its inception in 2020. Having worked with the Tundo’s in previous projects, Kevin and Christian were confident it was a good fit. “We can’t imagine building this property with anyone else. The Tundo’s have been phenomenal to work with and are an integral part of the team.”
Nestled in a sheltered bay bordered by sea cliffs set amidst 4 acres of pristine land, Hideaway Bay Resort offers a unique blend of relaxation with outdoor activities. Each of the 10, two-story accommodations offer 2 bedrooms, kitchenette and a private rooftop patio. Settled along 400 feet of beachfront, guests can enjoy strolling the sandy shores and unwinding to the sound of the waves.
The on-site restaurant and bar will offer accessible high-end cuisine with everything from steaks to seafood and vegan options. “We’re aiming to be as farm-to-table as possible with a menu that varies with the seasons.” Room service will be available to resort guests and to private cabana rentals on the beach.
The resort offers an unparalleled experiential venue for weddings and events that can accommodate up to 40 overnight guests on-site. With the perfect setting for a beach front ceremony, the property can host up to 220 for an indoor reception, plus outdoor space, all along the stunning waterfront. The diverse event space also serves as an amazing place for family reunions, retreats and other events.
As avid adventure sports lovers, Kevin and Christian have been operating SUP Erie Adventures for 8 years offering guided paddleboard & kayak excursions, SUP yoga, paddle Pilates, kiteboarding, wing foiling, fat tire mountain biking tours, and more. Their passion for the outdoors is contagious, and they’re eager to share with others. “I’ve been fortunate to paddleboard and kayak all over the world, but here on Lake Erie is my absolute favorite place. The mouth of Walnut Creek offers amazing waters with historic landmarks, like the arched bridges and cliffs. We almost always see at least one Bald Eagle on our excursions, and the fishing here is second to none. You can enjoy year-round world-class fishing here on the Lake, renowned for its diverse fish species including walleye and trout.”
Hideaway Bay strives to be eco-friendly in their sustainability efforts. The team has applied for an infrastructure grant that would allow them to install rainwater collection, permeable parking surfaces, as well as seeking to follow guidelines such as those set by Surfrider’s Environmentally friendly restaurant and resort practices.
“We’re stiving to be a world-class resort offering a wide variety of outdoor adventure sports & activities, while at the same time being a luxury retreat. We’re focusing on the natural surroundings, and not overdeveloping the property, offering activities that help our guests deepen their appreciation for these surroundings.” Spa services, sauna and hot tub will be on site and exclusive to resort guests during their stay. With only 10 properties on site, the property offers a quiet more private retreat from the busy nearby beaches.
