The “Arts in the Barn” arty autumn event started 23 years ago when a few artist friends decided to meet in a barn one of them owned to create art, exchange ideas, inspire each other and talk about ways to sell their work. Their great friendship and collaboration skills soon launched this combination artistic showcase and Fall festival, and over the years, it’s gotten larger and larger. This year, in mid- and late October, 25 fine artists and craftspeople from all over Western New York will be exhibiting and selling their artwork there. Thanks to its years of popularity so far, many people have created a family tradition of returning to it every year, and telling others all about its many artistic and edible delights, and fun, family-friendly activities.
The arty autumn event takes place amidst the beautiful hills and colorful Fall foliage of the southern tier at Wendel’s Sugar House, a beautiful, historic, rustic structure. The Sugar House is a very popular place in East Concord, NY that offers maple products including everyone’s traditional favorite treats Maple Sugar and Maple Candy, and the new gourmet variations, Maple Mustard, Maple Fluff (like cotton candy) and Maple Pepper.
Besides the original work you will be able to admire at the show (as well as gorgeous autumn leaves all around), you will also be able to buy local, homemade canned and baked goods, home decor, candles, soap, plants, candy, and clothing. You can also get delicious autumn specialties including maple, syrup, pumpkins, apples, and honey. The event is ideal for everyone in the family because, along with art appreciation, shopping, and snacking, there will be hayrides and dramatic “pumpkin chuckin'” there. Another highlight of the October event is the highly-anticipated chicken barbeque, which every member of the family can enjoy! Stroll inside the store and you will find even more goodies. The show is the perfect place, and this Fall is the perfect time to get some early holiday shopping done.
The event will take place over two weekends: October 14th and 15th, and October 21st and 22nd. On Saturdays it will be from 9am-4pm, and on Sundays from 11am-4:30pm. The location is 12446 Vaughn Street (Rt. 240) in East Concord, NY. If you are an artist or craftsperson and you are interested in participating in the show in the future, contact Martha, the Event Coordinator, at flowersbymartha@gmail.com. There is a waiting list.
