Compass Cycle has been offering their cycle and yoga classes at HoliMont for the past 2 years, bringing boutique fitness to the slopes. Classes are offered Saturdays and Sundays during ski season with both cycle and yoga to compliment everyone’s busy winter schedule. Compass offers the perfect opportunity for personal care and fitness during the winter months.
It was my pleasure to join my first class with Compass this past Saturday. The studio is located directly next to the main lodge, nestled in the slopes. I was greeted by founder Ashley Biryla who gave me a brief tour and overview of the bike. Our day was unsarcastically warm, so a fresh breeze blew through the windows, but the studio typically is darkened and candlelit so riders can shut out the outside world and focus on 45-minutes of pure cycling bliss. Each class can accommodate up to 20 riders, but our class was a smaller size of 8, with the option to ride front row, side or back row depending on each rider’s comfort level (or mood that morning!). Our instructor, Natalie, began with some stretches and an easy climb, followed by 30 minutes (45 total) of rhythmic riding easily adaptable to each riders ability level. It was the perfect kick off to a Saturday morning; thanking our bodies for showing up and doing the work. You never regret the workout.
Yoga is offered at 3pm on Saturdays and 9am on Sundays a wonderful way to unwind and center yourself après (or before) ski. Each class is set in a dark room with candles and music to help you stay rooted in the moment and present in your body. Each class is a combination of vinyasa (linking breath to movement) and flow with restorative poses that will leave you feeling stretched, refreshed and energized.
Each energetic instructor at Compass trailblazes the path to an exhilarating mind-body experience in each class, whether it be cycle or yoga. Their unique styles or cycling and yoga will challenge you to find the beat of the music and explore your fitness to its fullest potential.
