Under the Big Top in Buffalo
By Kate Bartlett
Direct from Paris, join Europe’s most famous circus family for an immersive experience in Buffalo April 17-28th under the Big Top. This one-ring family spectacle full of thrills, humor and elegance is making it’s much-anticipated debut in the US and Canada in 2024. Rich with French circus traditions and boasting an international all-star casts of artists, the show is sure to entertain and enighten.
Anouchka Boulione is one of the main performers and organizers for Cirque. She was born into the circus and has been performing for as long as she can remember; her family has been in the French C
ircus for 7 generations. She has performed almost every circus act including trapeze, areal acts, riding atop elephants, and more. This show she is performing with hula hoops, and is excited to share the experience with her daughter, Selena, who is also in the show. Selena is 17 years old and performs a foot juggling act as well as roller skating.
“The circus is different in France,” says Anouchka. “We are excited to bring our style of show to the United States for the first time and share our love of performing with American audiences.”
Cirque de Paris began their American tour in February in Florida and will be touring until September. The performance will be in Buffalo for 12 days at the Walden Galleria under the Big Top Circus Tent. The 90-minute extravaganza features aerialists, jugglers, tight wire dancers, clowns and more.
“We’ve had such a wonderful time so far. It’s been great performing for American audiences,” says Anouchka. “It’s different than performing in Europe; the crowds here are much more animated and get very excited watching our show. It’s incredible and we love it.”
The all-ages show is the same as their European show. “We’ve brought everyone here from our European show. It’s our lifestyle and we love what we do. It’s not work. We are performers and we love traveling together and putting on shows in cities around the world.”
Anouchka’s favorite thing about performing is the feeling of losing herself in her art. “It’s a magical feeling to disconnect from reality and immerse yourself in the art of performing. You forget all your problems and totally lose yourself. It’s amazing to see the crowds’ reactions; I love entertaining people and bringing joy to their lives. It’s truly a gift.”
