Service on the Slopes
Holiday Valley Offers Ecumenical Service

Spread the love

Ellicottville NY

Sundays can present us with the quandary of choosing between a Sunday Funday on the slopes or dedicating time to spiritual and moral formation by going to church. Holiday Valley in Ellicotville, NY has made the choice unnecessary. It is a little known fact that holiday Valley has an ecumenical church service right on the slopes. Every Sunday at 2:30 from New Year’s to the end of Lent, there is a brief 30 minute service of prayer, song, conversational sermon and optional communion in the warming hut on top of the Cindy’s Lift.

This practice has gone on for decades and is currently offered in conjunction with St John’s Episcopal Church in Ellicottville and St Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown. Of course, no church service will be complete without coffee!  The resort offes complementary Starbucks coffee during the service.

The Rev. Luke Fodor remarks, “This service is the highlight of my week as I have the opporuntiy to lead worship with a both group of regulars and first time attenders from around the country. We have a wide array of faith traditions and nationalities present.  It is always a treat to meet Anglicans from Canada south of the border of a ski trip. ”

All are welcome-wherever you are in your spiritual journey–to join this respite from the cold where we warm our bodies and hearts in community as we give thanks for the Creator’s goodness. For questions or more information, call the St. Luke;s church office at 716-483-6405.
