Jamestown Organization Celebrates 80 years of Service

Caption: This year the Allen Park Women’s Club is celebrating 80 years of service to the park and the many other organizations they assist. A Big Birthday Bash is planned for Members and their families at the Landmark Restaurant for April 19th 2022. On Saturday April 16th the Club is hosting the Return of their Traditional Easter Egg Roll in the park. The Hunt begins at 11am and everyone is invited.
As the spring sun shines and settles on the hill tops melting the last of the winter snow, the earth below begins to warm and soften, pushing up the first sprouts of the flowers to come. The trees in their predictable way are budding and the song birds can once again be found perching among their branches. It really is a magical time of year here in Jamestown and throughout Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.
Soon the air will be filled with the fragrant aroma of Lilac and Hyacinth while the Tulips, Lilies and Crocus display their vivid red, yellow, pink and purple colors signaling to the bees to get busy with the buzzing and for the butterflies to flutter by and deposit their microscopic eggs on the underside of the leaves of their favorite snacking plants. The Daisies and the Iris will grow long stems that stretch towards the sky inviting the Hummingbirds to drink in their nectar. Roses and Peonies will follow as warm summer breezes blow the sweet smell of Mock orange flowers throughout the hills.
As the temperatures climb, docks are seen being returned to their rightful places around the water’s edge. Boats become the favored mode of transportation and daredevils strap on water skies and attach inner tubes to long ropes for wave busting rides across the water. Convertibles cruise the long and winding roads that lead to picnics in the parks, while Golf carts and little flags dot the knolls and hills as we crazy people chase around a little ball with long titanium clubs.
All around our community, the different clubs and organizations start finalizing and putting their seasonal plans into action. On the Southside of Jamestown, nestled into the valley carved out by a running stream, the trees in Allen Park ready their canopy for the influx of summer critters.
All are welcome! Squirls of red, black, gray and brown can be heard chortling to each other as our migratory birds begin their warm weather nesting ritual. Now is when the members who make up the Allen Park Women’s Club mark their calendars with summer events.

Lisa Gustafson is the Vice President of the Club for her second, three -year post. She is very happy for the return of “normal” to our city and looks forward to meeting and planning with her friends again. She mentioned they are always reaching out for new members and volunteers for events like “Clean the City Day”. The group organizes teams to be spread throughout the park to pick up any trash and winter debris. It is easy to find this group on Facebook and there you can follow the plans they are working on for park improvement and summer events. Originally organized by mothers on Jamestown’s southside to support their soldier sons, they remain intact and support families and friends well beyond the southside of town. They have planted a few community gardens and have plans for more. They helped to provide new play equipment to our parks and welcome ideas for their service.
I look forward to finding ways to be of service to this worthy cause and learning about up- coming events. Thank you, Lisa for taking a few minutes to fill me in.
The Villager wishes the “Allen Park Women’s Club” A Great Big “Happy Birthday”! Congratulations and Thank You for 80 Years of Service!
