A celebration of culture, creativity, and community will return to the region this spring as the 2nd Annual Ohi:yo’ Art Market takes place on May 16 at the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino (777 Seneca Allegany Blvd, Salamanca). From 10am-5pm, residents and visitors alike are invited to experience a day filled with vibrant Native artistry and meaningful cultural connections.
The event is presented by the Onöhsagwë:de’ Cultural Center/Seneca-Iroquois National Museum (82 W Hetzel St, Salamanca). The Ohi:yo’ Art Market highlights the work of Indigenous artists from across the United States and Canada. The event brings together a wide range of artistic styles and traditions, offering everything from intricate beadwork and handwoven baskets to contemporary paintings, photography, pottery, and sculpture.
Building on the success of its inaugural year, the market continues to grow as a regional destination for art lovers and community members looking to support Native artists. Each artist featured in the show is selected through a juried process, ensuring a high-quality and diverse collection of work. Artists also have the opportunity to compete for more than $30,000 in prize money, including a top “Best of Show” award. Demonstrations of traditional art creation will also be held during the day to give attendees the opportunity to watch creation of art pieces, interact with makers, and possibly even touch or handle some examples. (Please do remember to ask permission or be invited to handle before touching any artwork.)

More than just an art show, the Ohi:yo’ Art Market creates space for cultural exchange and learning. Visitors can meet artists, hear the stories behind their work, and gain a deeper appreciation for the traditions and perspectives reflected in each piece. The event serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving Indigenous cultures while also celebrating their continued evolution.
Held in the spacious event center at the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino, the market offers a comfortable and accessible setting for attendees of all ages. Admission is free, making it an easy and welcoming outing for families, local residents, and anyone interested in exploring the richness of Native arts and cultures. Attendees can further enjoy their day at the casino with gaming and fine and casual dining selections.
The day market is also close to Onöhsagwë:de’ Cultural Center, which means there are even more opportunities to further explore Seneca arts, culture, and regional history. Cultural center hours on Saturdays are 9am-6pm, and admission for adults is $13; admission for veterans, college students, and seniors 55+ is $10; admission for children age 7-17 is $9 with children 6 and under being free.
Events like the Ohi:yo’ Art Market play an important role in strengthening community ties while shining a spotlight on the creativity and resilience of Indigenous artists. As the market returns for its second year, it continues to build excitement and momentum as a positive, enriching experience for the entire region and artists from multiple First Nations are again joining the marketplace.
Whether you’re looking to find a unique piece of art, learn something new, or simply enjoy a day surrounded by creativity, the 2nd Annual Ohi:yo’ Art Market offers something for everyone—and a chance to celebrate the cultural heritage that makes the region and the United States so special.
