This year’s event takes place on Saturday, March 22 at Holiday Valley (open to
public) and April 5 at HoliMont (members and guests only)

In this seasonal event, participants ski or snowboard towards a large pond of water keeping their tips up in efforts to successfully skim to the other side of the pond. “The gear has certainly gotten better so it might be easier in some regards,” reports Dash. “Nowadays skis are wider and snowboards are more efficient, but nevertheless, it’s still a challenging endeavor. It takes incredible skill to go fast enough to make it to the other side of the pond successfully.”

Regardless of participants success, it’s always a good party. “It’s sure to have a lot of thrills, some big spills, and a really great time. We’ll have a great DJ playing music, some fun and entertaining MC’s getting the crowd hyped up, and hopefully some excellent spring weather to enjoy.”

Pond Skimming marks the last big party of the winter season, and it’s a great way to close out the year whether participating or spectating, it’s not to be missed. “It’s a celebratory feel,” says Dash. “Everyone’s here to have a good time.”

Travis Widger from HoliMont notes, “this is unique event as it really brings the social and skiing aspects together.  Lots of cheering and comradery.  Skiing has evolved from telemark roots but everyone has always loved spring skiing.  The sun is higher in the sky, the snow is softer, and birds are chirping.  Energy is high and everyone typically dresses up and is ready to try their hand at their first water ski turns of the year.”
