Snowmobiling in New York State is a popular and exhilarating winter activity that blends the thrill of speed with the stunning beauty of nature. Imagine the crisp air as you race across the snow, surrounded by serene wilderness and stunning 360-degree views. Navigate groomed trails through dense, pine-covered forests, feeling the rush of adrenaline as you glide through powdery meadows. This exciting mix of adventure and natural beauty makes snowmobiling a memorable winter experience.

In Cattaraugus County, there are seven snowmobile clubs that maintain over 450 miles of trails. In Chautauqua County, there are five clubs which maintain over 400 miles of trails as well. Most trails run across private lands, relying on landowner’s cooperation. Local clubs maintain these trails by clearing debris, grooming surfaces, and putting up safety signs. There are a lot of fun stops on the trails to great a bite and get out of the cold. We have highlighted some of them here for you.

Most snowmobilers are members of a local snowmobile club, which are part of the New York State Snowmobile Association (NYSSA). This association oversees more than 220 clubs throughout the state. Joining a club involves a small fee, which can significantly reduce your snowmobile’s registration costs.
