This Sunday, November 23, 42 North Brewing Company and Mud Sweat n’ Gears will host the 5th annual Gear, Beer and Movie Premier event to kick off the ski season. This fundraiser will benefit the adaptive ski programs of Western New York at 42 North’s East Aurora (25 Pine Street) location from 1-6pm.
5 years ago, Kim Reading, owner of Mud, Sweat n’ Gears, approached John Cimperman, owner and founder of 42 North Brewing Company, with the idea of collaborating on a fundraising event to celebrate the beginning of ski season. “We were on board immediately,” explains John. “We share mutual passions for outdoor recreation, especially during the winter months, and the adaptive ski program is such a worthy cause. It’s been a great success since we started in 2021, and we’re looking forward to keeping it going for many years to come.”
Gear, Beer and Movie Premier will include vendor booths, live music, a special movie premier, and over $7,000 of ski merchandise to be raffled off. Raffle items include skis, boots, lessons, ski passes as well as a grand prize getaway to the Adirondacks with a two-night stay at the legendary Mirror Lake Inn along with four, weekday life tickets to White Face Mountain. “Kim has done an amazing job with the raffle items,” praises John. “She’s really outdone herself this year.” All proceeds will be donated to the adaptive ski programs across Western New York.

Additionally, Holiday Valley, HoliMont, Peek ‘n Peak, Swain, and Kissing Bridge will be on-site with information and selling ski passes for the upcoming season. “It’s a great opportunity to explore the different ski options in WNY,” says John. “Come talk with the resort representatives, learn about their offerings, and grab an updated trail map.”
The event starts at 1pm, with live music of reggae sounds from Olmstead Dub System starting at 2pm. “This band is incredible,” says John. “The reggae music keeps a fun atmosphere and the vibes are great.” The event concludes with a special premier of the ski film ‘Out of the Ordinary,’ presented by Head and Tyrolia Freeskiing.
John and Kim are looking forward to another successful event. “We are big supporters of the adaptive ski programs in the area,” says John. “It’s a great kickoff to the ski season; a celebration of winter. We invite everyone to come out, have a beer, and support a great cause in good company in anticipation of the upcoming ski season. We love winter. It’s a big part of both 42 North and Mud, Sweat ‘n Gears.”
John encourages everyone to explore the village of East Aurora while in the area before or after the event. “Our beautiful community really shines this time of year, just before the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Come explore our many shops and restaurants along Main Street, and discover why it’s been the scene for so many Hallmark Movies.” Holiday Touchdown: A Bills Love Story was recently filmed in East Aurora, and premieres November 22 on Hallmark.
The event is family friendly and free to attend. Raffle tickets will be available the day of the event and in advance at Mud, Sweat ‘n Gears in East Aurora and Ellicottville. For more information, follow 42 North and Mud, Sweat ‘n Gears on social media.
