Annual Ellicottville Turkey Trot
Thanksgiving 5K to Benefit EVL Playground

Spread the love

By Kate Bartlett

This Thanksgiving, November 27, marks the 4th annual Ellicottville Turkey Trot hosted by Warrior Fitness and Wellness. This 5K fun run raises funds to support the Ellicottville Playground initiative for an all-inclusive play space in the village.

Brad Poole started the Ellicottville Turkey Trot in 2022 as a way to gather the community in a wellness activity on Thanksgiving. “I wanted to bring people together to start the day doing something healthy,” explains Brad. “It’s a great way to celebrate being grateful for our health, and each other, before gathering for a meal with family and friends.”

The Turkey Trot starts at 8am (registration at 7:30) in order to get people up and moving with plenty of time for cooking, and feasting. The route starts and ends at Warrior Fitness, running 5K through the village on a mostly flat course. “The course is well marked and easy to follow,” explains Brad. All participants receive a medal for a keepsake, with light refreshments at the finish line.

Generations unite in health, happiness, and Thanksgiving
tradition at the 4th Annual Warrior Fitness Turkey Trot.

Brad emphasizes that the trot is not a race, but a fun run/walk for all ages and abilities. “We encourage everyone to come out, regardless of age or ability. It’s not a timed race, but runners are welcome to challenge themselves, or just enjoy a leisurely jog. Strollers and pets are welcome, kids 12 and under are free. It’s a fun atmosphere; many participants come in costume.”

Registration is $20, with proceeds to benefit the Ellicottville Playground, a non-profit organization raising funds to build an all-inclusive play space in the village. “This is an incredible cause that we’re happy to support. It is spearheaded by a group of younger mothers who are looking to make a positive change in the community.” Participants are also asked to kindly bring a non-perishable food item (or two) to donate to a local food pantry. ‘When we come together as a community, we can really make a difference.”

The race has grown over the past 4 years, starting with only 50 participants. Last year, around 150 people participated, tripling the number from the first event. “It’s great to see so many people getting out and making this a tradition. I love seeing everyone gathered together in good spirits, starting our day together in a healthy way. I’m so thankful to be a part of this community, and that this race has been well received.”

Brad encourages everyone to come out and participate on Thanksgiving, regardless of age or ability. “It feels good to do good, and be healthy together.”

Pre-registration is open on the Warrior Fitness and Wellness Facebook Page, or by calling Brad at 716-699-1100. Registration is also available the day of the event at 5A Park Ave in Ellicottville beginning at 7:30am.
