Spread the love

By Barbara Arnstein

The Terrace at Delaware Park is not only a gourmet restaurant in a beautiful park, by a lovely lake, it is now (until August 17th) the perfect place to dine before seeing a performance of a Shakespeare play (right beside it).  As well as a wonderful place to dine on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, it is also a wonderful place to have brunch, lunch, drinks or a special celebration.

The brunch menu items range from Eggs Benedict, buttermilk and blueberry pancakes, a veggie frittata to fresh berries and biscuits, home fries, a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese to champagne cocktails, wines and more. Lunch selections include an Angus burger, chicken and brie, an always available large Fish Fry plate, a Buddha Bowl (which includes quinoa, Asian cucumbers, cashews, seared tofu) and more. The dinner menu features share plates, including truffle fries and ahi tuna nachos,  salads with add-on selections, and entrees including Chicken Milanese (breaded chicken cutlets with fingerling potatoes); Grouper (pan roasted with tropical salsa, coconut rice, black beans and cilantro oil); Jambalaya Mix Grill (with shrimp, sausage and blackened chicken), and Seafood Bucatini (shrimp and scallops with garlic, lemon, white wine, pepper flakes, roasted tomatoes, spinach, bucatini and shaved parmesan).

The Terrace at Delaware Park, opened in 2017, is located in the Marcy Casino (casino is an Italian term for summerhouse) which was named in honor of the Delaware District City Councilman who led restoration efforts in the early 1980’s. The original boat house, designed by Calvert Vaux, Frederick Law Olmsted’s partner, burned down in 1900, and was replaced by one built for the Pan American Exposition of 1901. Art lovers can receive a ten percent discount on their dining bill by showing their Buffalo AKG Art Museum pass, receipt or membership card. Showing proof of a rideshare to the restaurant will get a diner a free dessert!

“Shakespeare in Delaware Park”, celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this summer, is now presenting “Richard III” (from July 24th to August 17th), about a man who schemes, seduces and slaughters his way to power until he is finally defeated. The remaining performances of its touring production, an abridged version of “Romeo and Juliet”, will take place on: Monday, July 28th (at Taylor Road Park in Hamburg, NY); Monday, August 11th (at the Tonawanda Show Mobile in Buffalo, NY) and Monday, August 18th (at Bassett Park in Williamsville, NY). Sadly, the founder of “Shakespeare in Delaware Park”, Saul Elkin, who was a distinguished professor of Theatre at the University at Buffalo, passed away on July 14th at age 93.

The Terrace is open for lunch and dinner Thursday and Friday, Brunch and Dinner on Saturday, and Brunch on Sunday. The Terrace is located at 199 Lincoln Parkway in Buffalo, NY. For more information, call (716) 886-0089, email info@terracebuffalo.com or visit their website terracebuffalo.com.
